There are several ski areas in Abruzzo.
Nearest to the house is the Roccaraso or Skipass Alto Sangro ski area which is just over 1 hour away. This is also the largest of all the ski areas and boasts 24 lifts, 10 black runs, 26 red and 32 blue with a total of 130 kms of piste. Roccaraso is Italy’s fifth biggest ski area and at weekends is very popular with skiers from Naples and Rome. During the week the pistes are very quiet and you won't have the kind of queues seen in the Alps. In Roccaraso they take great pride in keeping their pistes in excellent condition and they are always well "bashed". Many are covered by the latest snow cannons even though the Appenines snow record is extremely good.
High speed chair lifts access the area from the bases at Aremogna, Pizzalto and Monte Pratello. Many of the runs will take you through forests that are typical of this area's character. Most of the runs are intermediate but there are some beginners’ slopes at each of the bases.
There are 14 mountain restaurants and further restaurants, hotels and bars in Roccaraso, Rivisondoli and Pescocostanzo all of which form a part of the ski area.
Next there is the Campo di Giove ski area which is under 1h20m from the house.
We have the Majelletta WE ski area near Pretoro which is less than 1h30m hours from the house. On their website you can book ski passes and ski hire. There are several hotels, bars and restaurants which you can also see and/or book through the website. It is a limited ski area with 5 lifts, 2 black runs, 4 reds, 3 blues, a snow park and a kids ski area. The area starts at 1600m and rises to nearly 2000m. Lifts are open from 08:30 to 16:00.
Finally there is the Ovindoli ski area on the Gran Sasso mountain range. This area is the furthest from the house being just under 2h10m away.
