There are a number of historic sites in Abruzzo including Roman archaeological sites such as Juvanum which is quite close to the house. In addition there are beautiful old churches, museums and other buildings in the towns of Lanciano, Casoli, Guardiagrele, Vasto and Chieti. Travelling further afield you can visit the capital of Abruzzo, L'Aquila, with its Baroque and Renaissance buildings and churches. It was severely damaged in the earthquakes of 2009 and re-building continues with the help of the World Monuments Fund. Pescara centre has some fine buildings but is mainly a busy main shopping centre.

​Of course the most local historic building is the castle at Roccascalegna that clings to the cliff in a very startling manner. There are many other castles around the Region that are also well worth a visit.
